Pancake Tuesday

A Stack of Pancakes by Dave Mager

Today is Shrove Tuesday, a.k.a Mardi Gras, a.k.a Fat Tuesday, a.k.a Pancake Tuesday. Whatever Tuesday you want to call it, it is the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of lent.
The children had pancakes and sausages at school today, which is always fun. I was going to help out with the lunch, but poor little Trinity is not well so we just stayed home today.
The kids are talking about what small (or not so small) sacrifices they will make for lent. "No, Mary Margaret, you may NOT give up homework for lent!!" Usually the children give up sweets, and if they want to make any other sacrifice, that is up to each child. In the past some kids have vowed to go 40 days without a movie or video game, or computer time. Tonight Heather and Grace were saying how they would give up coffee, but giving up wine would be soooo hard to do! Gracie! I have no idea where they would have heard that.........what?
