Mt Washington in the summertime

Felicity & Eva were at Summer Camp for a week, so I decided to take the rest of the gang to our condo at Mt Washington. Thomas, Grace, Trinity, Mary Margaret, Heather and Prima. The weather was really nice, so we took a little walk in the woods.
Trinity.
Mary on the swings.
Me, being lazy and trying to read a book while the kids played.
Prima loves going to the mountain. Here she is with her Frisbee.
We spent one afternoon in Courtney at the water park. It was great fun for the kids and I was able to relax, too.
The kids are having some O.J before we leave.
Cutie-Pie.

Timmmberrrrr

We had some trees topped to get back some ocean view. When we moved here 10 years ago, we had a little view of the water, but over the years, the trees have grown pretty high. The guys that did the job were great. They worked non-stop all day. They also chipped all the wood and took everything away, so there was hardly anything to clean up.
They had really cool equipment, too. It was so foggy when they started that it was impossible to tell the water from the sky.
The fog cleared up and voila! Ocean views! We still wanted to keep our privacy, so we wanted to make sure that we wouldn't see into our neighbour's yard (& vice versa). We can just see the top of our neighbour's house. Perfect.
This is way more of a view than we have ever had. It's so great. The kids love to check out the boats with our binoculars now. On a clear day we can even see Mt. Baker.
If you click on the picture above, can you see the cool rainbow colours across the water?

Eva is now a teenager

Eva turned 13 on July 23rd. Happy Birthday, Eva!To celebrate, we all went to the Titanic exhibit at the museum and we also saw the Titanic IMAX movie. It was very cool.Thomas with the woolly mammoth

Mary MargaretGrace, Heather & Trinity loved the forest area in the museum.
BTW, the alarm is pretty loud if the kids climb under the rail to get a closer look at the animals.
Trinity climbing a tree on our way back to the van.
After our trip to the museum, we went to the Rathskeller Restaurant for dinner. mmmm schnitzel.
Thomas is um..well, I don't really know what he's doing!

Heather and Bunny, enjoying dessert.
Here is Eva, with a very yummy dessert.
Happy Birthday, Eva. Love ya'.

Heather and Mary's hair cuts

Heather wanted a pixie cut. She is so cute.
Very nice, Heather.
Mary just got a bit of a trim. Beautiful.

toy soldiers

We had a few days of rain, which kept us indoors for a while. Here is what Thomas was up to. He made the most amazing set with his toy soldiers in his room. It was so cool!
It is not just a jumble of soldiers; there are different battles and scenes being played out. Thomas even put some knights and pirates in the fray as well.
Check out the Scottish Highlanders playing their bagpipes. Awesome, Thomas.

Sooke Potholes

Greg and I took the kids to the Sooke Potholes for the afternoon. I used to ride my bike there almost every day in the summer when I was about 11-14 years old. The water is still just as cold as I remember it. Brrr...Mary, Cin-Cin, Grace, Thomas, Heather, and Felicity about to go in the cool clear water.
Eva has her snorkeling mask on. I am holding Cin-Cin. The day was a bit cloudy, but the water actually felt really nice (once you got used to it.) Gregory and Felicity and Eva went up the river exploring with their snorkels.
Gracie.
Heather is warming up in a blanket, after her swim.
Thomas.
After swimming we went up the potholes to where there is an old building site. A resort was going to be built, but the developer ran out of money, but you can see how amazing it would have been, up on a mountain, with gorgeous views, and a waterfall below.
This is Mary Margaret. See how high we are above the water? I get kind of dizzy, looking over the edge there.
How cute is Trinity beside the thistles?
Here is Heather, Eva, Felicity, Thomas, Trinity, me (holding Trinity), and Mary. I was trying (not too successfully) not to freak out, because we are on such a sheer cliff, and I was worried about the kids , well, you know... plunging to their deaths. Aside from me spazzing out, I think everyone had fun.

Bard at Brentwood

A group of local actors put on a Shakespeare play every summer at Brentwood College (not far from our house). This year the play was "Twelfth Night". I wasn't sure if Heather would understand a Shakespeare play, but she totally did. It was such a funny performance, and the set, costumes and actors were all great. Bravo.
Heather, me, Mary Margaret, Eva, and Felicity all ready to go to the play.

Hippy chick

As we were sitting outside enjoying the sun, Trinity gave me a flower to put in my hair. Soon Heather and Grace started gathering flowers from the garden to give to me too, so I thought they would look so cute as a little crown. Grace had a hair band in, and we just tucked the flowers under it.
The flowers are geraniums, roses, lavender, mallow, daisies, nasturtiums, and...Trinity, Grace and Heather.
I love the way Trinity is looking so adoringly at Grace.
Peace out.

picnic at the beach

I took the kids to the beach near our house for a picnic. There is a neat little gazebo in the middle of a dock with benches and is the perfect picnic spot.
Felicity, Trinity, Heather, Mary, Thomas, Grace & Eva.Mary Margaret
Cin-Cin (Trinity's nick-name) She has her water shoes on, and really liked walking in the water.
Eva, me, and Felicity. Eva looks so tall in this picture!
The kids made this rock into a sort of secret club. I can't tell you any more about it, because, well, because it's a secret. As they were all sitting there, the tide was coming in, and Eva had to give Heather a piggy-back ride back to shore.Thomas made this cool figure while we were at the beach. It is Jesus on the cross.

Ciao, Chowder-head

Thomas found a dead fish at the beach. This sort of discovery seems to fascinate and delight children. I just think...ew, please don't touch it, or poke it, or make me look at it.
The kids were totally checking out the fish and made note of the fact that it didn't have any eyes (ew) its skin was drying out in the hot sun, and it was sort of stuck to the rocks. The kids lost interest in the dead fish, except for Trinity. She did not like the idea of the fish being left on the rocks, dead. She said it wouldn't be dead in the water. I told her that the birds would eat the fish, and we should really just leave it there. But Trinity really needed the fish to go in the water!
Eva came to the rescue. She put the dead creature on a piece of driftwood (ew, please don't touch it) Observed that it was stiff (ew, please don't make me look at it) and then set it out to sea.
We all started laughing at the sight of the dead fish sailing away on its own tiny raft.
Ciao, chowder-head!

Trinity was happy that the dead fish was now in the ocean. Thanks, Eva.
